About Us

The Programme in Comparative Media Law & Policy was founded in 1996 at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, a constituent part of the Law Faculty of the University of Oxford. Professor Monroe E. Price and Stefaan Verhulst established PCMLP with a grant from the Markle Foundation and the cooperation of the Howard M. Squadron Program in Law, Media, and Society at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York. PCMLP works closely with Research Fellows in CSLS and across the University. Oxford provides a unique and interdisciplinary environment in which contemporary issues of media and technology can be seen in historical and geopolitical perspective.
